#EndViolenceAgainstWomen Campaign Exposing Misogynist Trolls Goes Viral

Clementine Ford

Kerri Sackville has kicked off a campaign to stop misogynist trolls, after seeing the disgusting comments, including rape and violence threats, fellow writer Clementine Ford received on her socials this week.

Using the hashtag #EndViolenceAgainstWomen, a secret Facebook page with over 12,000 members are shaming Clementine’s bullies by naming them in tweets online.

The horrible comments come after Clementine made headlines for publicly calling out a man for calling her a “slut”, an action which saw him get fired from this job almost immediately

While Kerri was clearly inspired by Clementine’s experience, she said on her blog today that standing up for Clementine can help women around the world going through a similar thing, and that this is part of a bigger initiative.

“I couldn’t bear it. I couldn’t bear the fact that people feel they can attack women in this way. I wanted to do something. I wanted to show my support for Clem, but not just for Clem, for all women who are abused online,” she explained.

Within 20 minutes of the campaign’s launch it was trending number one in Australia, gaining momentum thanks to big backers like Tracey Spicer. Sisterhood.

Why This ‘Art’ Project Showing Famous Females as Abuse Victims Is Not OK

Screen Shot 2015-12-02 at 2.48.13 PM

Italian pop artist aleXsandro Palombo gets a good deal of press for his cheeky, so-called satirical work that sometimes is sort of funny and other times falls flat. Homer Simpson and Anna Wintour exploring the Kama Sutra? Har har. Photoshopping famous women to look as if they’re victims of domestic abuse? We’re not laughing. On Tuesday, Palombo’s “press office” sent out an email blast to media explaining his newest project, entitled #BreakTheSilence “Life Can Be A Fairytale, If You Break The Silence.” After clicking in, we were pretty shocked to see doctored images of female stars like Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Emma Roberts, Gwyneth Paltrow, Madonna, Miley Cyrus, ...

Zendaya Talks Race, Natural Hair and Shonda Rhimes in ‘Complex Magazine’

zendaya-complex-2

We can’t think of a better pick for Complex Magazine‘s “Woman of Next Year” than Zendaya Coleman. While most Disney stars succumb to tabloid drama, Zendaya remains above the fray. She handles social media critics with wisdom and grace, she speaks thoughtfully about issues affecting race, gender and class, and she’s a triple threat talent to boot. Though it’s tempting to call her a role model, Zendaya doesn’t enjoy the term or the undue pressure that accompanies it. She prefers the Tupac-coined phrase “real model,” which speaks to inspiring others by simply being yourself. Her interview with Complex Magazine finds her doing just that. The shoe designer is playful yet wise beyond her years as she navigates difficult questions about race, self-esteem and the pitfalls of being a child star.

Check out excerpts from her interview below:

On forging an identity as a biracial teen:

“You get the best and the worst of both worlds. I know there were a lot of times when you try to figure out where you fit in. I just realized that it worked to my advantage because I just got along with a lot of people. But to literally be two races, it’s really hard to see color because I’m the gray area. I had to learn about both sides of myself and be really proud of and educated in both. I think that’s why I’m comfortable with myself and can speak on certain issues because I’ve taken the time, or my parents have taken the time, to teach me who I am.”

[ See: 10 Times Zendaya Coleman Killed the Red Carpet ]

On the response to her unfortunate encounter with Giuliana Rancic:

“[It’s been] only positive. It was a learning experience for myself and for everyone who read it. A lot of people don’t realize that hair is a big thing for a lot of people, not just African-American women. It’s something to be aware of and to be cautious of. So it was something that I really felt like I should speak on. There were so many women, of all races, that came up to me and were like, ‘I really love what you said,’ or ‘I had my daughter read that.’ All my brothers and my dad at one point had dreadlocks. My little nieces have curly hair. And if they were to have someone say something demeaning about what they have and what they hold dear to them, then I would want them to at least have the pride within themselves to come up with a response that made sense and that they were proud of. Honestly, I think about my little nieces and my little nephews first. Because one day they’re going to have Twitter and they’re going to have Instagram, and I’m going to be like, ‘This is how you handle it, kids.’

On how she spends her down time:

“You see that computer over there? As soon as you leave, I’ll go on my bed and watch Grey’s Anatomy. Anything Shonda Rhimes does is gold. I order food and just chill. Because that’s an occasion for me. Chilling is like, whoa.”

On the area in entertainment she’d like to explore:

“I can’t wait to do movies. That’s something I really, really want to do. Or at least on Scandal. Hey, Shonda. What’s up, Shons?”

On the problems that befall other Disney alums:

“I think again it’s that real model, role model thing. A lot of them were forced into being role models and they had to pretend to be something that they didn’t feel matched up with who they were. And that’s because they started really, really young. So you’ve got to realize when you’re really young you don’t know who you are yet. And as soon as you figure it out, you’ve already been forced to become something that you didn’t really know you signed up for. So it’s like, I get it. There’s a lot of pressure, so I completely understand. Everyone has their different ways of learning and growing and finding out who they are, and you can’t fault people for that. Again, I think with all the prior Disney stars, at least you can say they are themselves now.”

Our Editors’ Secret Weapons for Hiding Serious Under-Eye Circles

undereyes

Nobody is immune to dark under-eye circles. All it takes is one late night, one too many glasses of wine, or one slice of post-drinking pizza, and they’re right there to rear their ugly heads—it’s like they were waiting in the wings this whole time, ready to appear as soon as you slipped up. It goes without saying, then, that for most of us, a trusty under-eye concealer is a non-negotiable. This rings especially true as we head into the holiday season. Let’s be straightforward: It’s holiday party season, and we’re guaranteed to be staying up late, sipping on cocktails, ...

Rachael Taylor Battles Domestic Violence Stigmas: ‘I Am Not Ashamed’

Rachael Taylor

Boss lady Rachael Taylor has opened up about the stigma of “shame” women can face from experiencing domestic violence, discussing that she instead feels proud to have made it out the “other side” after filing for an AVO against her then-fiancé Matthew Newton in 2010.

When a Daily Life reporter questioned Rachael about whether or not “addressing her experience of domestic violence” concerned her because “some people might use it as a stamp to define her” in a recent article, the Aussie actress replied, “I think you are talking about the perspective of surviving a violent relationship from a place of shame.”

Rachael continued “That’s part of that broader ‘shame’ stigma, and I am not ashamed. If it is stamped on me in any respect, that is something I am very proud of, because I am on the other side of it… “

The Jessica Jones star is also “very optimistic about change” in this area and hopeful that more women will be able to take action, explaining that she is “genuinely buoyed” by Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s announcement of a $100 million funding package towards ending domestic violence.

“There’s judicial reform that’s needed. We need to find a language around [the fact that only] half of the women who find themselves in intimate-partner violence feel they can report it,” she explained. “Only half. That’s not good enough.”

Rachael knows too well what it’s like to come forward after experiencing domestic violence, with press reports outlining claims of sustained physical, verbal and mental abuse, as well as death threats, during her time with Matthew. Five years after the incident was heavily publicised through the media, Rachael is using her profile to make a difference and show the world that there is a way out.

“People transform. Women transform, they are remarkable at it, and I don’t think any woman should feel marred by a moment in time that is very difficult to transition out of, but possible.”

Adventures in At-Home Vaginal Rejuvenation

vsculpt-device-pelvic-floor

There are plenty of things I don’t need in my life but could potentially benefit from. More vitamin D. Louis Vuitton’s $55,000 handbag. The MAC lipstick all the dancers in Justin Bieber’s “Sorry” video wore. But like most consumers, I’m not immune to marketers telling me what I should and should not be doing for my own general well-being. And that is why I recently found myself trying to figure out what exactly to do with a large, white “vaginal-rejuvenation device” sitting on my desk at work. The brand-new FDA-approved product, called vSculpt, claims to be the “number one at-home vaginal-rejuvenation therapy” device, ...

The 90s Are Back, According to Google Shopping Searches

According to Google, our shopping habits are the equivalent of a Throwback Thursday post. Adidas Superstars, Levi’s jeans and bomber jackets are among the top items trending on the search engine, WWD reports. Google compared online retail trends from October 2014 to October of this year and discovered that we’re all trying to relive the 90s with our clothing purchases.

[ How Rihanna Is Single-Handedly Bringing Back the 90s ]

In fact, interest in bomber jackets, Levi’s jeans and Adidas Superstars doubled from that of last year because it’s obviously still 1993. Other popular items include adult onesies (thank you Katy Perry), toy drones, hoverboards, smart watches and smart TVs. Most surprisingly, there’s been an uptick in purchases of Polaroid cameras and Fujifilm Instax. Next thing you know, we’ll be buying cassette tapes and Walkmans again.

The Bachelorette’s Richie Strahan Makes His Runway Debut

Richie Strahan walks runway

Everyone’s favourite The Bachelorette contestant Richie Strahan has made his runway debut over the weekend, walking for Perth Fashion Festival’s Swim + Resort series at Bather’s Beach House in Freemantle yesterday.

Presented by Fashion Council WA, Richie showed off all eight of his rope access technician abs in Ocean Zone board shorts as part of Myer’s show. Now represented by major agency Chadwick models, it seems like cool banana Richie has found his calling.

If memory serves, Sam Frost landed a modelling contract right before she wound up as The Bachelorette. Hopefully history will repeat itself for this guy? Australia can only hope.

Alessandra Ambrosio Bares All on Maxim’s Hot New Cover (Forum Buzz)

Maxim December 2015 : Alessandra Ambrosio by Gilles Bensimon

With the news of Kate Lanphear‘s sudden departure from Maxim, the magazine shows no signs of giving up the good stuff, bestowing upon us a sultry and seductive December/January cover featuring Alessandra Ambrosio. Our forums usually depend on racy French publication Lui for something daring and provocative, but Maxim certainly delivered with this particular cover photo, lensed by Gilles Bensimon. The team took to the luxurious surroundings of Monte Carlo for the shoot with Alessandra captured wearing nothing but a diamond necklace, catching some rays while looking every inch the Brazilian bombshell.

“I find this extremely tacky, which is a shame cause Maxim was doing so good,” voiced kokobombon the moment the cover struck, unwilling to get us off to a positive start.

“Yikes, have I stumbled onto Playboy??? She looks like a 90s porn star on the cover. I think she’s got a stunning body, but the face, well, let’s just say she’s no oil painting. Not even the old Maxim would dare this,” added an uninterested Benn98.
But everyone else loved Alessandra’s revealing cover. “She looks fantastic, she’s such a great cover girl, this is probably my favorite from her after that awesome Russh cover from 2010,” praised MulletProof.

Forum member tigerrouge agreed, complimenting, “I actually think this is what Maxim should have been selling from the start – the only successful formula that could have replaced ‘boobs and beer’ is high-class sleaze, as if the readers have a supermodel on speed-dial for Saturday nights.”

“It’s tacky and it’s so 90s and I kind of love it???” admitted blueorchid, sharing the same sentiments.

In the same frame of mind was SpeakThatJDunn: “I actually LOVE the cover. The entire editorial is pure fire!”

See Alessandra’s cover story for yourself and drop us a comment here.
