Kanye West‘s incessant prayers of being recognized by the fashion industry just got answered. The rapper’s Yeezy sneakers, a collaboration with Adidas, were named “Shoe of the Year” by Footwear News. He can now put himself in the same category as previous winners Christian Louboutin, Stuart Weitzman and Manolo Blahnik, a factoid that will probably end up in one of his rants soon. Take that, fashion critics.
We’re certain ‘Ye will laminate and frame the announcement, which reads: “This year’s Shoe of the Year honor recognizes the insatiable demand for all things Yeezy. The sneaker releases dominated the market in 2015 as demand for the product crashed servers, sparked extraordinary resale value and created a need for mob control in stores. From the moment Kanye West unveiled the 750 high-tops on the Grammys, his Adidas sneakers have been the most-coveted, most-talked-about, most-recognized shoes this year.”
Indeed. I mean, even the Obamas were sent a pair. Speaking of which, this momentous accomplishment would not be possible without wife Kim, who dutifully packaged Yeezys to send to Kanye’s notable friends and posted Instagram pictures of the family collection. Congrats to all.
