You Need a Pair of Super-Flared Pants This Fall—Here are 20 to Shop Now

Wide-legged jeans were pretty much everywhere this summer, and as much as I’m still a fan of the leg-lengthening style, I’m ready to graduate to fall’s newer, more elevated version: The super-flare.

Characterized by a tight, skinny fit through the leg and distinct volume at the hem, the style is clearly inspired by the 1970s trend that dominated Spring and Fall 2015 runways, but not quite as distinctly boho as super-wide denim.

The the dramatic floor-sweeping versions showcased by Australian brand Ellery (yep, the ones Zara swiftly knocked off, not that we’re complaining) feel especially fresh right now, and I’m looking forward to wearing them all season (and counterbalancing their inherent Woodstock vibe) with tailored, minimalist staples like a simple black flat-knit sweater, a white boxy tee, a classic workshirt, or a sleek turtleneck.

That said, I’m also partial to the cropped kick flares that ruled designers’ Resort 2016 presentations. Paired with a blazer and platforms a la Michael Kors, or worn with Alexander Wang‘s stretchy sleeveless mock turtleneck, the shorter length is a cooler, more structured replacement for the ubiquitous culotte.

Since fall’s right around the corner, here are 20 super-flared pants to shop now–at every length and every budget.
