For whatever reason, more so than with movie actors, we find ourselves confusing TV stars with their characters. After all, that’s the way we see them week after week—in costume as somebody else, whether we love ’em (like Taraji P. Henson on “Empire”) or can’t stand the sight of them (like Carice van Houten on “Game of Thrones”).
That’s why it’s all the more interesting to see them looking like themselves on the Emmys red carpet, especially when they know a thing or two about hair and makeup (and can keep it together despite the current heat wave in L.A.). Like, who knew Brienne of Tarth was such a babe?
Heroes and villains alike, we’ve rounded up our favorite beauty looks from the 67th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards red carpet.
Taraji P. Henson looked as much like a boss on the red carpet as she does on TV—which is to say, very much. In case you wanted further evidence that both metallic eyes and lips are making a comeback this fall, Taraji’s purple shadow and nude lipstick should be all the proof you need.
Jaws drop every time Christina Hendricks sets foot on the red carpet, but this look is especially good, with the kind of lush auburn curls formerly only seen on American Girl dolls. Gorgeous.
As far as notable updos of the evening go, Anna Chlumsky‘s messy French braided crown was one of the biggest standouts. It’s perfect paired with her otherwise low-key look of dark eyeshadow and neutral lipstick.
Sarah Hyland sure knows how to rock a sexy textured lob, and with her shiny nude lip and classic smokey eye, the whole look really comes together.
With bold red lipstick, a simple updo, and the naturally full brows of our dreams, Amanda Peet‘s hair and makeup was on point—and perfectly complemented her bright blue eyes and fair skin.
We can’t confirm whether Laura Prepon is keeping her black hair for the sake of her “Orange Is the New Black” role or whether she’s adopted it for her personal look off-screen, but we do know one thing: it looks amazing on her, especially with the well-groomed brows and dark smokey eye she wore tonight.
“Game of Thrones” star Gwendoline Christie boasted retro realness on the red carpet, with platinum pin curls, a flushed complexion, and loads of mascara for major lashes.
Amy Poehler has changed up her look big time, and with her new light brown air and cool tousled waves, we think she’s looking better than ever.
Emma Roberts is serving up all the inspiration we need to rock bright platinum hair with more than a touch of dark roots showing. With her matte lipstick, dewy skin, and dark doe eyes, she’s got the blonde bombshell look down to a science.
We’ve long been on board with the faux bob, and Kerry Washington showed off one of the best we’ve ever seen, with the perfect tucked ends and just the right amount of volume and texture. Paired with a slightly metallic purple lipstick and poreless skin, the effect is glamorous, but not over the top.
Thick, glossy blonde hair, stained lips, a generous amount of highlighter—the components of January Jones‘s classic, natural look may seem basic, but the end result is absolutely radiant.
If there were ever a perfect way to wear a platinum bob, this would be it. Lady Gaga totally nailed the old Hollywood vibe, but skipped the red lipstick to keep it modern.
Kiernan Shipka made yet another gorgeously grown-up red carpet appearance, with glowy skin, full, dark brows, and the sleek, shiny hair only 15-year-olds have.
